Chief People Officer

Tech Goes Home (TGH) seeks its first Chief People Officer. The position will develop, operationalize, and lead a comprehensive talent management strategy. Further, it will promote a positive, collaborative, and trauma-informed organizational culture to ensure that the organization's values are ingrained in its policies and practices and manage its increasingly complex human resources (HR) function. The goal is to build out a people-centered HR experience that all consider a resource for achieving personal and professional goals. The Chief People Officer will coordinate and integrate TGH's racial justice work, including implementing hiring practices that yield an increase in staff who reflect our learners’ demographics and life experiences.

The organization is passionate about digital equity, providing training, technology, and internet access to thousands of people annually across Massachusetts. Professional Characteristics:

● 7-10+ years of progressive, successful experience defining and/or implementing talent strategies and employee development.

● Experience crafting and implementing strategic HR initiatives

● Experience providing HR support for multi-location and/or national organizations preferred

● Relevant Certification/s (SHRM, PHR) preferred

● Strong written and verbal communication skills, including excellent public presentation skills

● Advanced knowledge of Google Suite of products, HRIS systems, and comfortable learning new technical systems as needed


● Develop and implement talent onboarding, engagement, and retention strategies

TGH strives to offer competitive salaries within the nonprofit field. Paid time off, extremely generous benefits including 100% employer sponsored health insurance, and a real commitment to work/life balance are standard and exceed traditional nonprofit industry standards. Salary range is $100,000 to $125,000.

Organizational Information:

The Chief People Officer will report to Co-Chief Executive Officers and serve as a member of the organization’s leadership team, which currently is composed of six members. Earlier in 2022, TGH defined and began the implementation of its overarching Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, & Equity (DBIE) agenda, and is facilitating a comprehensive three to five year strategic planning process. Its most recent strategic plan was completed in 2020.

Relevant Financial Information:

In 2021, Tech Goes Home had annual revenues of roughly $4M, of which 55% was derived from philanthropic sources, 27% from government grants, and the remaining 18% coming from earned revenue.

Regional Advocacy Director

Tech Goes Home (TGH) is a nonprofit dedicated to addressing the digital inequities that pose a significant barrier to opportunity and success for thousands of students, workers, and families across Massachusetts. We bring digital devices, internet access, and training to those without, so students can do homework, adults can find jobs, seniors can connect with loved ones, and all can lead healthier lives.

In the past five years alone, 21,000 learners have graduated from TGH programs, and we have distributed more than 15,000 new computers in communities across Eastern Massachusetts.

The coronavirus pandemic and the growing national consciousness about systematic racism have shed light on the digital inequities that have existed for too long, especially in low-income households. This increased awareness has prompted many to develop new relationships to advocate for and advance digital equity.



Tech Goes Home (TGH) is seeking a visionary and results-oriented Regional Advocacy Director to oversee all aspects of the organization's advocacy efforts in Central Massachusetts, particularly in Worcester. The Regional Advocacy Director will design and execute a comprehensive regional advocacy strategy for Tech Goes Home. As an experienced government relations emissary, the Regional Advocacy Director will lead TGH’s political efforts and work with local and state elected officials and other external stakeholders to advance Tech Goes Home’s mission. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, a proven track record in developing and promoting an advocacy agenda, and excellent self-motivation.

As an advocacy team member, the Regional Advocacy Director will strategically address the challenges digital inequity creates for people in Central Massachusetts. The Regional Advocacy Director will also increase the public’s understanding of digital inequity through these efforts by building broad, effective coalitions and developing key partnerships. The Regional Advocacy Director must be able to work independently while also collaborating with TGH's Advocacy team.

This position is a unique opportunity for someone looking to make a tangible and lasting difference in closing the digital divide while presenting themselves as a top-tier government relations professional in Central Massachusetts. The Regional Advocacy Director will report to the Chief Advocacy Officer. The expectation is that this person will work and live in Worcester, MA or the immediate area.


The Regional Advocacy Director is a new role at Tech Goes Home and will be a partner in shaping their role. Among the responsibilities we imagine will be essential to the success of the position are the following:


  • Represent Tech Goes Home's values, understanding that TGH's learners are often among the least represented in the public arena.

  • Manage efforts that inform and engage board members, partners, instructors, and other supporters in TGH’s advocacy work.

  • Collaborate with the TGH Development team to identify and advance opportunities for funding this work, either from the local public sector or through collaboration with partners or other leaders.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the TGH program, partners, and digital equity

  • Contribute to thought leadership pieces, including written op-eds and letters to the editor, and facilitate advocacy and public engagement opportunities.

  • Increase the TGH brand awareness and engage key stakeholders with the TGH model.

  • Research and prepare policy fact sheets, issue briefs, and assist with social media content.


Partnership Stewardship

  • Bring your established and broad network of public decision-makers to advance understanding of Tech Goes Home's mission and the issue of digital equity to a larger audience.

  • Prioritize, develop, and manage partnerships with community organizations, public libraries, nonprofits, schools, and other entities, and successfully and seamlessly transfer these relationships to the TGH Program team.

  • Develop relationships and meet frequently with key public policy stakeholders, including elected and non-elected city and government staff and community partners.

  • Maintain engagement with local officials to influence the passage, defeat, or amendment to local ordinances or legislation of digital equity interest that impacts Tech Goes Home's objectives.

  • Manage governmental, business, and community relationships and contacts on behalf of Tech Goes Home to ensure objectives can be successfully achieved and effectively promotes and enhances the organization's image and reputation.

  • Provide feedback, in conjunction with TGH’s program team, to partners and/or instructors and assist in resolving issues and concerns in a professional and timely manner.

  • Initiate and transfer the Salesforce database records related to partnership processes and procedures with accuracy and timeliness.

  • Participate in community coalitions to broaden support; identify, recruit, and engage activists and stakeholders to promote TGH's work to advance digital equity



  • In collaboration with the Chief Advocacy Officer, develop the strategic direction and specific action plan for TGH's public sector and advocacy initiatives in Central Massachusetts, ensuring integration with the core program that provides technology, training, and internet access to under-served communities.

  • Establish initiatives, collaborations, events, campaigns, press opportunities, and other methods for TGH's thought leadership on digital equity to be recognized and tapped, particularly as pandemic recovery and relief efforts move forward.

  • Monitor local legislative activity, including policies to advance digital equity

  • Serve as an enthusiastic member of a developing team and contribute to your colleagues' success whenever possible without waiting for them to request assistance.


There are innumerable ways to learn, grow, and excel professionally. We respect this when we review applications and take a broad look at the experience of each applicant. TGH is an organization built on the principle that digital inequity has its roots in systemic racism and perpetuates poverty and unequal opportunity. Candidates must demonstrate a thorough understanding of this concept and preferably have experience advocating for systemic change.

  • At least five years’ experience in politics, advocacy, government affairs, lobbying, or a related field, with proven success in relationship management for a cause or issue.

  • Deep understanding of and connection to the communities of Worcester and Central Massachusetts.

  • Past success balancing external engagement--initiating meetings, events, or forums--with substantive message development and strategy.

  • Examples of past coalitions or community organizing leadership advancing a social cause.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in synthesizing important concepts for non-experts, the media, political leaders, and/or the public.

  • Lived experience with digital equity challenges is valuable and valued at Tech Goes Home.

  • Facility with one or more of the languages spoken by TGH's learners is a plus. These include Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin, and Haitian Creole.

  • A collaborative and respectful approach with people of different races, cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, educational levels, and perspectives is necessary.

  • The ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously, strong self-motivation, and work independently with limited supervision.

  • Personal qualities include resourcefulness, attention to detail, resilience, enthusiasm for change, and patience for the time it takes.




This is a new position and the salary range for this exempt role is subject to clarification but is estimated to be $85,000 - $95,000. In addition to learning about the workings of a small, rapidly growing nonprofit, each member of the TGH team has a budget for professional development. The Regional Advocacy Director will be expected to work in person with community partners in Worcester and the surrounding area. Monthly trips to the Tech Goes Home headquarters in Boston are anticipated.

Regional Advocacy Director

TGH Research and Media Intern - Spanish Speaker 
Summer 2023

The primary focus of this internship is to collect data that informs TGH on ways to impact our graduates' lives. The Research and Media Interns will have two main projects during their internship: an annual follow-up survey and a video story of our graduates. The Research and Media Intern will report to the Director of Evaluation.


Annual Follow-up Survey: The intern will refine our annual follow-up for program graduates, execute the survey, and analyze the results. With input from the team, the intern will update an online survey, call TGH graduates, or administer the survey verbally. Over 35% of our course graduates identify as Latinx, and this position requires that someone be able to conduct interviews in Spanish. The intern will write a final report summarizing the data and key findings. 


Successful candidates will have experience collecting quantitative and qualitative data through telephone and email surveys. Moreover, the candidate will have experience collecting a large amount of data and tracking project progression. The project requires independent work while keeping the larger team informed of the project's progress and any challenges that arise.


Video Stories: The intern will run a campaign to collect video stories from graduates and learners. Videos will be in the graduates' native language, and the intern will run the campaign, organize the videos, and transcribe videos that are in Spanish.

OPPORTUNITIES for you as a TGH Research Intern

  • Pursuing or recently earned an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in the social sciences or data-related field

  • Experience in creating surveys in platforms like Google Forms, Survey Monkey, or Qualtrics

    • Experience working in Salesforce is a plus

  • Outstanding oral and written communication 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort speaking on the phone

    • Experience working for an organization like a university telefund or phone banking for a political candidate is a plus

  • Training in quantitative and qualitative data analysis

  • Detail-oriented

  • Confidence and can-do attitude; ability to advance projects both independently and as part of a small team

  • Conscientiousness and ability to thrive in a team environment

  • Video editing skills are a plus but not required
